Once again we’ve chosen a classic novel for our discussion, this time The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. “The tale of Dorian Gray’s moral disintegration caused a scandal when it first appeared in 1890, but though Wilde was attacked for the novel’s corrupting influence, he responded that there is, in fact, ‘a terrible moral in Dorian Gray.” Join us when we meet to discuss Wilde’s novel Tuesday, August 5.
Joan Didion’s National Book Award Winner, The Year of Magical Thinking will be the subject for our group on Tuesday, September 2. “The Year of Magical Thinking ... [ told in some of the plainest, yet most eloquent prose you’ll ever encounter. Everyone who has ever lost anyone, or will ever lose anyone, would do well to read it.” (The Seattle Times)
Our group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:15 pm in Nancy’s home in Sierra Madre. You needn’t be a regular; feel free to come even for just one book. Questions, directions, or need books? — see Nancy at church most Sundays.
